Dana Quinn is proud to wear purple for a cause close to her heart. It's the color of support for pancreatic cancer.

She lost her father to the deadly disease just a few short years ago. He was diagnosed in June of 2010 and died only 9 months later.

Dana Quinn said, "We were thankful to have the time that that we did have because some families only have a matter of weeks."

Since her father's passing Quinn has made it her mission to raise awareness about pancreatic cancer through the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

The group brings people together who are dealing with similar situations.

"There are people out there fighting for this cancer and offering support and hope to patients and families going through it. I know my dad would've really enjoyed on connecting with another pancreatic cancer patient."

Quinn says the 5-year survival rate of only 6% and nearly 74% dying within the first 12 months of being diagnosed.

She believes the biggest problems are the little research that has been done for pancreatic cancer and no real health screenings.

That is something she hopes changes in the future as she helps others along the way.

"If I'm able to reach out to one family and provide any help and support and let them know of the resources then that makes me proud," said Quinn.
