Wednesday, Nov 4, 2009 @08:48pm CST The average American household has at least two different computers. Experts say certain types can actually make your energy bills go higher and higher.
Before you shop for a new computer, think about how much electricity it's expected to use. Depending on the size, people can save anywhere from 20 to 70 percent based on the number of factors inside the actual monitor. Flat-panel monitors are supposed to be much better than old conventional tube types. When it comes to energy consumption, laptops save more than desktops because they're much smaller and run off a battery when not plugged in. As for desktops, you can still save money by making a few simple changes. Just remember to quit programs when they're not being used and try to turn the brightness down on the monitor when it's possible. |
