  • Trip to India Takes a Turn for the Worse
    Reported by: Carley Gordon

    Monday, Aug 18, 2008 @10:07pm CDT

It’s a parent’s worst nightmare, sending your child abroad never to see them again. An Oklahoma State student and a University of Arkansas graduate took a trip to India. Monday morning, they hit a car while riding on a motor scooter. Justin Magers, an Oklahoma State student from Tulsa died on impact. John Miller, a U of A graduate from Conway, is in critical condition.

John Miller graduated from the U of A in 2007. Soon after, he left for a trip to Hyderabad, India.

“I said you’re a long way away, and you know, we just can’t get to you in a few minutes, so you be careful over there. He said ‘Oh I will,’” says Troy Wilson, Miller’s uncle.

Monday Miller’s family got the dreaded call.

“They held a cell phone up to his ear and his mother talked to him, and they said he reacted by holding his arm up. He was moving so we know that he heard her,” explains Wilson.

Miller is in a Hyderabad hospital suffering from several internal injuries, three blood clots, and a broken leg. His friend, Justin Magers, wasn’t so lucky.

“Their family is going to have to receive this son, and he’s not injured. It’s going to be a terrible thing to have your son at that age delivered back home,” says Wilson.

Miller’s family members say from 8,000 miles away, all they can do is hope.

“We’re just all praying, and praying for the family, and hope all of yours will do the same,” says Wilson.

Both families could use your help paying for numerous hospital bills and flights.

If you’d like to donate to the Miller family, call John’s uncle, Troy Wilson, at 479-633-3836 or 479-443-3352.

If you’d like to donate to the Magers family, you can send money to the First Baptist Church of Tulsa. The address is:
