Reported by: Mickey Goodwin Tuesday, Jan 8, 2008 @10:47pm CST The Bella Vista home of ESPN analyst Chris Mortenesen also received major damage. His property and landscaping completely uprooted. However, Mortensen is quick to point out it could have been a lot worse, as his family was spared.
As Chris Mortensen looks around, he says, “it’s such pretty property. You look around, and just know some of it you can’t get back.” What was once a tranquil home for Chris Mortensen and his family, turned upside down during Monday night’s bout with severe weather. “I didn’t know what happened until I woke up in the morning. I looked around, and told my wife, ‘you need to get up.’ I don’t think she was too excited to look at it all,” says Mortensen. He says he kept a close eye on the sky throughout the night. Just when he thought it was safe to go to sleep, he woke to the sounds of freight trains. “It’s a good wakeup call as long as you live to tell about it,” Mortensen reflects. It may take up to six months to clean everything up. But in the meantime, he says he will be better prepared the next time a storm hits. He says, “I’m a light sleeper, but you can’t worry about this kind of stuff. God’s in control, and he’s protecting us.” Meteorologist Dan Skoff says the National Weather service in Springfield, Missouri is scheduled to survey the damage on Wednesday. They will be looking determine if a possible tornado actually touched down in the area. |
