Reported by: Carley Gordon Tuesday, Feb 12, 2008 @08:30pm CST If you’re planning a vacation any time soon, you may want to consider traveling green. When planning a trip, they’re always lots of things to worry about like where to go and where to stay when you get there, but if you want to stay eco-friendly, that’s actually pretty easy!
It’s green on the go, and it may sound pricy, but travel agent, Rick Deramus, says there are some cheap and easy things you can do to stay green, even when you hit the road. Deramus says, “The Earth is not going to last forever if we keep using it the way we have been. We’ve got to start traveling smarter." First, do some research. Certain hotels, resorts, and cruise lines have green programs. They don’t wash your towels and sheets every day, but that’s no all you should be checking for. Deramus says you should look to see, "What type of recycle plan they have. Do they recycle their newspapers? Do they recycle the plastic containers? See if they've changed out their lights and pipes in regards to more efficient lighting and plumbing." If you need a car, consider renting a hybrid, and most importantly, while you’re out seeing the world, put trash where it belongs. Deramus explains, "There're some beautiful places in this world to go and see. Love to travel, but when you do, just take pictures only leave footprints, no litter!"
