Reported by: Lisa Brence Wednesday, Feb 13, 2008 @09:37pm CST Roses are red... but also "green" for one San Francisco group! Pajarosa Greenhouses says they promote growing flowers in a more environmentally-friendly way. Their techniques include reduced pesticide use and an environmentally-sound hydroponic flower feeding system. They also use less fertilizer.
"When they get a product from us our roses don't have any hazardous materials on them that they're one of the better quality flowers available," says co-owner Alan Mitchell. "We're able to cut the amount of water use and also the amount of fertilizer we use. We've been able to drop that probably fifty percent over the last eight years." Mitchell says the "green" roses cost about the same as ones grown the regular way. |
