Tuesday, Aug 4, 2009 @01:25pm CDT Razorback Transit is getting a little greener, thanks to a federal stimulus grant.
$1,260,500 million in federal funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 will allow the University of Arkansas' transit department to buy three new buses. The buses will be five feet longer and have lower floors for easier access. The new buses will also be outfitted with clean-air technology. "We're going to replace three of our older buses, this is a 1991 bus with about 400,000 miles on it so it definitely needs to be replaced," said program advisor Andy Gilbride. "We're also going to replace the HVAC system for the facility and also buy some more computer equipment." The new buses will cost $352,039 each and have already been ordered. |
