  • Matt Jones Chooses Jail Time
    Reported by: Brad Reed

    Monday, Mar 9, 2009 @09:05pm CDT

After talking to a Washington county prosecuting attorney, as well as several unnamed sources, Brad Reed is confirming Matt Jones failed a drug test on February 27th, and now sits in the Washington County Jail for possession of a controlled substance. He tested positive for alcohol, which is a violation of his drug court terms.

He was called in front of judge Mary Ann Gunn on Monday, where he appeared with his mother Paula and admitted to drinking beer with a few of his friends at a golf course in Northwest Arkansas the day before the random drug test. Judge Gunn then gave Jones an option for the violation: either spend six weeks at an in-house rehab center, or one week in jail. After talking to his mom, sources say Matt Jones originally chose rehab, telling the judge he was afraid to go to jail. After more deliberation, and realizing he was set to practice with the Jacksonville Jaguars the following Monday, he opted for jail time.

Judge Gunn set Matt Jones bail at $150,000, telling Jones if he bails out, then he’d better “pack his bags” for rehab.

Jones was booked around 6 o'clock Monday night -- he'll stay behind bars until 8 am Sunday morning. We're told Jones was extremely apologetic before judge Gunn, and Judge Gunn was equally as disappointed in Jones.

We'll have much more on this story as it develops.
