Reported by: Marci Manley Tuesday, Nov 3, 2009 @01:20am CST Freshmen in the Fay Jones School of Architecture at the University of Arkansas are collecting cans from local businesses to use in their CANstruction competition.
It is the school's third annual canned food drive, where students design a piece of architecture and construct it from donated cans. The students only have 40 minutes to construct their design. All of the cans collected are donated to local food pantries. Members of the community are invited to come by the challenge on Friday, November 6. The construction will be at the Peace Fountain outside of Vol Walker Hall on the UA campus from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Last year, students collected more than 4,000 cans. Thanksgiving and Christmas are high demand times for food pantries in the area. The focus for this year is healthy foods. An award will be made to the team of students who collected the healthiest foods for the competition. If you are interested in donating cans for the event, you can deliver them to the Department of Landscape Architecture at 230 Memorial Hall right off of Maple Street on the University of Arkansas campus. If you have questions concerning the competition, contact Rachel Hencz at 479-575-4097 |
