Wednesday, Nov 4, 2009 @05:35pm CST After allegations, an investigation and several motions, a new pair of eyes will take a look at the investigation surrounding what did or did not happen inside the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity house.
H.G. Foster, a special prosecutor from Faulkner County, will get the case. Foster says it's not uncommon for a special prosecutor to be appointed. "It's up to the prosecutor and it's up to the judge. It's up to the prosecutor whether to request it and it's up to the judge whether to grant one or not," he says. You may remember, a woman claims three University of Arkansas basketball players raped her during a party back in August. Washington County Prosecuting Attorney John Threet decided not to press charges because he says there wasn't enough evidence. Now, Foster will have to wade through the files. He can even do additional investigating if needed. As far as discussing specifics about the case, Foster is keeping quiet. "At this point in time, I'm really of the opinion that the less said about the specifics of the matter, the better, for everyone involved." Foster has decades of experience behind him. He worked as a deputy prosecutor for 8 years and served 20 years as the Faulkner County Prosecuting Attorney. |
