  • Lindsey Honored in Springdale
    Reported by: Aaron Nolan

    Friday, Nov 6, 2009 @09:31pm CST

Former Arkansas Razorback Jim Lindsey was honored in Springdale on Friday night.  It was a fundraiser dinner for the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame.  Lindsey is well known around the Natural State for his work in real estate, but many don’t know much about his football career.  Lindsey was a member of the 1964 National Championship, he was the 27th overall draft pick in the 1966 NFL draft, and he spent 7 years with the Minnesota Vikings.

At Friday’s event teammates and friends remembered his great career.

Owner of the Dallas Cowboy and former teammate of Lindsey, Jerry Jones said, “There was a cover story on Time Magazine about the gladiators of pro football, and Jim was one of the ones that were mentioned in that.  He introduced that to pro football.”

Former Hog Coach Frank Broyles added, “Jim was a difference maker, not only as a player in his skills, but he was also a great leader.”

Pat Summerall is a legendary NFL broadcaster and talked about Lindsey, “There's something special about being on the special teams, which Jim was the captain of when he was with the Minnesota Vikings.  And I remember, fondly, covering many of those games, broadcasting many of those games which he was outstanding.”

Lindsey said, “It was a great part of my life, and it was a part of my life that I will never forget, the teammates that we had, the success that we had, and the good feelings that came from all of it."

The night saw about 1500 at the Northwest Arkansas Convention Center and raised over $700,000 for the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame.
