Reported by: Liz Hogan Wednesday, May 27, 2009 @05:41pm CDT The supporters say they're hoping to show Senator Blanche Lincoln that working families want this legislation. Last month, Senator Lincoln said she cannot support the Employee Free Choice Act in it's current form. Now the legislation remains only pending.
If employees want to form a union, the employer gets to decide how they go about it -- either by secret ballot or majority sign up. The Employee Free Choice Act would put that choice in the employees hands... letting them decide the route they want to take. Some law makers worry this legislation would open the door for union bosses to pressure employees into signing union-authorization cards...but the president of the Northwest Arkansas Labor Council says that's not so. He tells KNWA, employers are often the ones pressuring their employees not to unionize. |
