Continuing Coverage:

New information has been released out of Cave Springs concerning a police officer involved in a dog shooting Friday.

The officer has been found justified in his actions.

Cave Springs
Police Chief, Mike Caudill, says the officer acted within policy, which allows law enforcement to shoot aggressive animals who pose an immediate threat.

The officer shot the dog in the mouth, after responding to a call about a stray pit bull.

According to the officer - the dog ran toward him - showing its teeth.

Since the shooting -- a family has adopted the dog, and the city of Cave Springs is paying for veterinary bills.

The police department is not yet releasing the name of the officer involved.

Original Story:

A loose pit bull in Cave Springs was shot in the mouth when running at an officer with its teeth showing.

It happened Friday when a family called the city about a stray pit bull running on their street and in their garage for a few days.

The family tells us the dog was not aggressive but was hungry and would run "full-force" toward people.

When an officer arrived it charged toward him so he drew his gun and shot it in the mouth.

Now a family on the same street is adopting it, so the City of Cave Springs is paying for the vet bills.
