Alcohol abuse by minors is nothing new, especially at the college level.
However the effects can be devastating to family and friends.
It was eight years ago Brandon Williams died at party from alcohol poisoning.
Since 2005, Brandon's family is still trying to get over the shock of losing their son.
However the effects can be devastating to family and friends.
It was eight years ago Brandon Williams died at party from alcohol poisoning.
Since 2005, Brandon's family is still trying to get over the shock of losing their son.
"I miss his smile and his laughter," says Brandon's mother, Shelley Williams.
Brandon Williams was just 19 years old when he left home for the very last time.
"Brandon did not go to that apartment thinking that he was going to die or something bad was going to happen," says Shelley.
A party gone terribly wrong.
"We really don't know a lot of what happened we know that his blood alcohol was .56," says Shelley, "I was in shock when they told me because I thought he died from a car wreck. I didn't ever think about him dying from alcohol poisoning."
It was May 21st 2005.
"Because he was at the wrong place at the wrong time, it cost him his life and now his dad and brother and I are left to deal with it now that he's gone."
Now Shelley Williams and her husband speak to teens about the dangers of underage drinking.
"They just are out there partying and having fun and don't realize the dangers or think that anything's going to happen to them."
A message attached to a hope, that no parents will ever have to say this:
"For whatever reason that night he didn't leave the party and it cost him his life. Our lives have been changed forever."
The Williams family started an organization to honor their son called the Brandon Williams Memorial Foundation.
As another part of the organization, they speak to teens about drinking underage.
Shelley actually said a lot of kids don't think their parents would miss them, so she encourages moms and dads to tell their kids how much they love them and check up on them, talk about the dangers of alcohol and make sure that kids are making good choices.
