The Vice President is leading the White House task force on guns, which was formed after the school massacre in Newtown, Connecticut.

Biden says the goal is preventing another tragedy.

"I've been doing this a long time," says the vice president. "I can't think, of all the tragic events we've endured, I don't think anything has touched the heart of the American people so profoundly as seeing those, learning of those young children, not only being shot, but riddled with bullets. It's just, every once and a while there is something that awakens the conscience of the country and that tragic event did it in a way like nothing I've seen in my career."

Representatives from the National Rifle Association and Walmart are among the groups expected to attend the meeting on Thursday.

President Obama has vowed the task force will provide "concrete proposals" to help reduce gun violence by the end of the month.
