Number five -- Microsoft is the latest tech company targeted by hackers. The software giant revealed the breach this week on its security blog. Microsoft said it discovered a small number of computers, including some in the Mac business unit, were infected by malicious software. The company said the attack was similar to recent attacks on Apple and Facebook.
Number four -- Republicans are urging President Obama to approve construction of the northern leg of the controversial Keystone XL Pipeline. The pipeline would bring oil from Canada's tar sands in Alberta down to the Gulf of Mexico for refining and processing. Republicans said the Keystone project would boost the U.S. economy and ultimately help reduce the federal debt. Opponents call it a dirty and dangerous pipeline that will cause environmental damage.
Number three -- Police said some hotel guests in los angeles bathed, brushed their teeth and drank water from a tank in which a young woman's body was likely decomposing for more than two weeks. 21-year-old Canandian tourist Elisa Lam checked into the Cecil Hotel January 26th and disappeared on the 31st. Guests were complaining about water pressure, so the hotel's maintenance man went to check the rooftop water tanks and found Lam's body inside one of them. Officials are working to determine the exact cause of death.
Number two -- Preparations are in full swing at the Vatican, as Pope Benedict XVI prepares to deliver his final blessing before retirement. At least 100,000 people are expected to be in Saint Peter's Square for the "Angelus Blessing" on Sunday. So extra transportation, police and paramedics will be filling the Vatican city. The pope will leave his post at the end of the month, saying he decided to retire because he does not have the "strength of mind and body" to carry on.
Number one -- Cleanup is under way after a fiery crash at the Daytona Speedway injured at least 28 spectators during the last lap of a nationwide series race. Debris, including an engine, flew all over the track, with some reaching the second level of the stands about 20 feet up. Several cars were involved, setting off a chain reaction collision. The crash was on the same track where the Daytona 500 will be held Sunday.
