NCAA Tournament Helps Local Economy Win Big

Teams from across the country are in Fayetteville Friday for the big NCAA Track and Field Championships. Along with their fans, they're helping the local economy by dropping a lot of dough this weekend.

The Fayetteville Visitors Bureau shows that the city will host about 10,000 visitors this weekend which will amount to about 2.5 million dollars in revenue.

City officials hope that these athletes and coaches will like the area so much, they'll come back when they're not competing.

Huge weekend sporting events like the NCAA Track and Field Championship are something local hotels like "Staybridge Suites," located right next to the indoor track, look forward to.

"Of course it brings revenue, not only into the hotel but the restaurants around the area. We've also had a lot of the teams asking for different things to do in the are, to experience different parts of Fayetteville," Greg Bullard with Staybridge Suites said.

Not just Northwest Arkansas is cashing in on Razorback athletics.

In fact, in a UofA  study last year,  Razorback athletics were behind more than 150 million dollars of revenue a year, across the state.

So hosting events like the NCAA Track and Field is a win for everyone.
