Man Makes Public Plea for Kidney Donor

Updated: January 21, 2013
Earl Martinez is holding up a sign for motorists that reads "Need Kidney Donor." Martinez, who's 28 years old, was born with a genetic kidney disease called Alport Syndrome.

He's been getting dialysis treatments for four hours a day, three times a week for the past year and a half.  And he's been waiting more than a year to get a kidney transplant.

Now he's taking a direct approach to finding a donor.

"My insurance would cover all medical costs on my side and the donor's side, so the donor would have no medical costs," Martinez said.

He said his family is not eligible to donate a kidney because his condition is hereditary.
