Daylight Savings Checklist

While you're setting back your clock, this is also a good time to replace the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

These are probably the most important battery-powered devices in your home.

Its a good idea to get in the habit of changing them out once or twice a year at daylight savings time.

Now you may not need to  throw out the batteries you just took out of your smoke detector --they could still have some juice left. You might be able to use them for remote controls, flashlights or other household devices.

While you are changing the batteries in your smoke detector or carbon monoxide detector, check to see if the device has an expiration date. Many --only last 5 to 10 years.
