With baseball season just around the corner, the University of Arkansas has adopted new security recommendations from the Department of Homeland Security.
The bag policy that is already in effect for Bud Walton Arena and Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium now also applies at Baum Stadium.
Only bags required for child care or medical conditions will be allowed. Purses will have to be smaller than 14 inches long from side to side, 10 inches wide from front to back and 10 inches deep from top to bottom. All purses going into the stadium will be searched.
Containers fitting those dimensions will be placed at the entrances of Baum Stadium. Any purses that do not fit into the containers will not be allowed inside.
Outside food and beverages will still be allowed in the Hog Pen tailgating area and may be stored in typical food and drink containers like coolers. Associate Athletic Director Kevin Trainor says the difference this year is that those containers will now be searched on the way in because of the increased security measures.
No outside food or drinks will be allowed into the main Baum Stadium seating area with the exception of suite holders who can carry in their own food if they have a suite ticket to scan at the entrance gate.
As with all Razorback athletic facilities, the following items will not be allowed: Alcoholic Beverages, Animals (except service animals), baby seats, baby strollers, bags (refer to bag policy), banners, signs, beach balls, cameras (professional equipment or cameras with telephto lenses not to exceed 6", camera bags), coolers or containers, explosives, folding chairs or stools, food and beverages (with the exception of Hog Pen), ice chests, laser pointers, noisemakers of any type (i.e. bells, horns, whistles, etc.), pets (with the exception of service animals used by disabled guests), personal heaters, stadium seats with armrests and/or over 16 inches wide, umbrellas and video cameras.
The top-ranked Arkansas baseball team will open the 2013 season at Baum Stadium this weekend against Western Illinois.
Game times are scheduled for 3:05 p.m. Friday, 12:05 p.m. Saturday and 1:05 p.m. Sunday.
