New measures are in place in the Springdale School District to help keep your kids safe.
This school year they installed a brand new system at Jones Elementary and two other schools ensuring that people can't wander in.
Student security concerns at an all-time high following the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary.
"Before we had our security system in place our front doors were open at all times," says Melissa Fink, the Principal at Jones Elementary.
There was only a secretary to guard the entrance
"Often times, we found ourselves running down the hallway trying to catch parents to get them to sign in at the front office."
That all changed this school year.
"They added our security system so that we could view who was going to be in our building before they actually entered."
"We can look on two monitors in the office to see who is trying to get in the building."
And their is only one person who can let them in these doors.
Safety is our number one concern in Springdale Schools. We know that we have to have a safe environment for our students if they are going to come and optimize their learning."
The new system, also setting parent's minds at ease.
"After the Sandy Hook Incident, we did have a lot of parents that came in the office very grateful that we had the system in place. I think it makes our parents feel good that we do have a secure building and that we have measures in place to keep people out of our building that don't belong here."
The district has gotten such good feedback from parents, they plan on installing this same intercom system at five other schools by the end of the year.
