The first of six new fire trucks has arrived in
On Wednesday, February 13, the city received two platform ladder trucks and one pumper truck.
"The primary goal in replacing our aging fire apparatus and adding the Quint to our fleet was public and firefighter safety,' says Fire Chief Mike Richards. "The aging fleet was becoming more unreliable and subject to frequent breakdowns that put our firefighters and the public at much greater risk."
Two viewings have been set up to introduce the new fire trucks to the public.
The first will be held at the Fort Smith Public Schools Service Center at 3205 Jenny Lind at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday February 19.
The second is scheduled for Saturday, February 23 at noon in the north parking lot on Garrison Avenue and North 2nd Street.
Funding for the new trucks is part of the $168 million sales-tax package voters approved in March 2012.
Nine million dollars of that was allocated to the Fort Smith Fire Department.
