Black Bear Found in Backyard

By:
Updated: April 17, 2007
A Northwest Arkansas resident got an unexpected visitor. What was first thought to be a deer, turned out to be a black bear. Wedington resident Harry Beadles says he was shocked to see a four legged animal roaming his back yard last Thursday. After calling the sheriffs office, he was told to set up a trap. But after several attempts, he realized the sardines he laid out weren`t doing the trick, so he mixed up some bear bait himself using molasses and peanut butter. We spoke with a worker at the gentry safari, who handles black bears, and he says they arent really aggressive. Most likely the bear was wandering around looking for food or exploring the territory. Beadles says he grew fond of his wildlife friend, even naming him Cinnamon. The bear was returned to the wild unharmed, about 80 miles south of Wedington. The black bear weighed about 160 pounds and estimated to be around 2 or 3 years old. Harry beadles says he`s lived in the area for awhile now and has never seen a bear before.
