SAT scores for the state are up from last year.
Overall, the 2006 Critical Reading mean score was 574 in 2006, compared with a mean of 563 in 2005. For Mathematics, the 2006 mean was 568, compared with 552 in 2005. A new portion of the SAT GÇô Writing GÇô debuted with a mean score of 567 for Arkansas students.
The 1489 students in Arkansas who took the SAT scored above the national average.
The national SAT mean scores for 2006 were 503 in Critical Reading, 518 in Mathematics and 497 in Writing. For the class of 2006, overall combined scores for mathematics and critical reading dropped by seven points from last year, which represents less than 1 percentage point.
