A day after he passed away, Lowell Police Chief Joe Landers' friends and loved ones come together to celebrate his life and show support for his family.

Folks gathered at Ward Nail Park Saturday afternoon for Barbecue in the Park.

Organizers say all of the proceeds from the barbecue will be placed in the Arvest account set up by the Lowell Police Department.

Landers was hit by a drunk driver while riding his motorcycle in Panama City, Florida.

He died early Friday morning, after being on life support for a week.

"This community is coming together for an amazing man that would've given the shirt off his back to anyone, we have supporters from all over Northwest Arkansas showing up," said organizer Porscha Waggle.

"I think that's what community is and we're part of this community.  When tragedy hits a community that's what a community does, they come together. Obviously you can look over my shoulder there's over 200 folks here, coming together and that's what's important," said Bill Horton.

After the barbecue, a candlelight vigil will be held the park.
