People gathered Tuesday on the one year anniversary of the deadly twister for a ceremony, music and speeches.
They observed a moment of silence in memory of those who lost their lives. And are giving thanks for the incredible recovery effort that has helped Joplin pick up the pieces. Survivors say they can't believe the progress that's been made.
More than 160 people died in the massive tornado that destroyed large parts of the town.
Forecasters measured winds as strong as 200 miles per hour during the storm.
