For everyone backed up in this traffic -- they can breathe a sigh of relief -- at least soon. A new flyover has been approved in this area and construction will be starting soon.

Drivers heading north on College trying to get to the Fulbright Expressway will now have an easier route.

A flyover starting a little north of Millsap will then go over 71 Business and end on the Expressway. It will be a left entrance ramp.

It's expected to alleviate congestion and in turn safety for the area.

The fly-over will also allow direct access to the shopping center where target and restaurants are.

In 2005 the city received a grant for this highway, therefore the 7.5 million dollar project will cost the city only about 1.5 million.

But the real impact will be seen in travel time.

"Taking as many as 4 to 500 cars out of that intersection in a peak hour, we think will really be beneficial and just give folks another option, another way to avoid an intersection that's congested and sometimes unsafe," Chris Brown, the Fayetteville City Engineer said.

The city has 6 bids from construction companies. Once one is chosen they can begin working in January.

Construction will cause a few back ups. We'll post any road closures as the occur. The project is expected to be complete mid-2014.
