Three Straight Losses, Three Point Problems

Hogs fans got treated to one of the most exciting games at Bud Walton Arena in recent history Friday night when #5 Syracuse came to town.

"Unfortunately we came up on the short end of it," Arkansas head coach Mike Anderson said after the 91-82 loss.  "It wasn't because of lack of effort.  I thought our guys gave maximum effort.  You can only play defense for so long."

The loss is Arkansas' third in a row which is potentially damaging to the psyche of a young team.

"In this business, you've got to have short memory," Anderson explained.  "Our kids have got to have a short memory."

"I feel we learned a lot more from these losses than we would if we were to win them," junior forward Marshawn Powell said.  "It's going to get us ready for our conference play."

Statistically, the Razorbacks stacked up with Syracuse nearly across the board, but the three point line continues to haunt the Hogs.  They made just 5-24 from downtown against the Orange and are hitting just 26% as a team this season.

"(It's all about) being confident.  That's what coach talks about," freshman guard DeQuavious Wagner described.  "Just be more confident.  Act like you do in practice.  The atmosphere was big.  (There was) a little pressure, but you've got to overcome it."

"We didn't shoot the ball well," Anderson said matter-of-factly.  "When you don't shoot it well, that's what happens.  We got to the free throw line more than Syracuse.  We turned them over 19 times.  We did some good things."

It's not a back-to-the-drawing-board situation, but the schedule doesn't offer any immediate relief for Arkansas.  Two more high conference opponents are up next, Oklahoma and #3 Michigan.

"We're just trying to work on the things that we can work on to get better and to prepare us for a great run in our conference," Powell said.  "That's what we're going to do."
