The flash surveys sent out by Bentonville Schools show overwhelming support for creating a new, lower cost, plan for a second high school.

A few weeks ago, the district mailed a survey postcard to every voter who participated in the last millage election.  In that vote, folks rejected the proposal for a new second facility which would have offset the overcrowding problem at the current high school.

Of the almost 10,000 cards sent out, around 40% or 3936 were returned.  2334 checked the "YES" box, supporting a second high school at a reduced cost.  682 checked the "Alternative Solution" box. While 923 checked the "NO" box.

Out of the 3936 surveys, 1198 had checked that they were currently parents of students attending the District.  960 of the parents checked "YES"; 167 checked "Alternative Solution" and 97 parents checked "NO."

Superintendent Micheal Poore told us he hopes to go back to the voters with a new millage proposal in the fall of 2013. If successful, the district could have the new school open by 2016.

The Bentonville Public Schools Board of Education will have a special meeting discussing the results Monday, January 14, from 5:30 to discuss the next steps.
