Several Arkansas lawmakers say although the Virginia Tech murders are a tragedy, gun laws are not the root of the problem. "Im not adverse if there is some type of an improvement we can make, in terms of gun laws that would be more effective in keeping things like this from happening, Im certainly open to looking at it, but just to generically say that the only way to keep this from happening is to increase gun laws is really not productive," says Senator Blanche Lincoln, (D) - Ark. In light of the disturbing details learned about the shooter... both Senator Lincoln and Congressman John Boozman say mental health care laws need to be re-evaluated. "This kid was crying out for help in his own way, and yet wasnt dealt with in a sense of getting the help that he needed," Boozman says. "Many of us in the Senate have been asking leadership to bring up a bill on mental health parody, mental health equity, focusing on the fact that there are millions of Americans who are in dire need of mental health assistance," Lincoln says.
