A lawsuit jointly filed by 33 other states and the District of Columbia alleged Warner Chilcott prevented generic versions of the drug from reaching market to limit competition and inflate prices. The suit alleges that Warner Chilcott paid Barr Pharmaceuticals $20 million not to market a generic version of Ovcon. According to the suit, Warner Chilcott became the exclusive U.S. distributor of Ovcon in early 2000. As part of the settlement, Warner Chilcott will pay a total of $5.5 million to litigating states. The case against Barr continues.
