With the Revelation that most of the suspects in the latest UK terror plot are in the medical field, Britain is taking a close look at how it lets foreign doctors into the UK.
On the same day the new British Prime Minister Gordon Brown is expecting to get a preliminary report on how the health system here recruits foreign doctors, something that he commissioned after the attempted terrorist attacks two weeks ago, hes also taking some heat from a number of sides.
First, from the head of Interpol, that says that Britain is not checking all of its visitors against an Interpol list of suspected terrorists.
Also, here some members of parliament are criticizing Brown and this government for a loop hole they say exists when foreign students come to this country.
They say they get visas but when they dont show up for classes, they can sometimes disappear and are extremely difficult to track.
The British government has vowed to remedy that problem with new rules.
And it also has said it is going to expand the checks that are done on foreign trained doctors that come here to work.
"Well expand the background checks that are being done on highly skilled migrant workers that are coming into this country."
Some analysts said thats also something the U-S should be doing, given that about one in four U-S doctors have been trained overseas.
But the Department of Homeland security in the U-S says they dont feel thats necessary at this point.
They say that the checks that are done on foreign-trained doctors are extensive and adequate, given that the department says theres no imminent threat to the U-S that would involve foreign doctors.
