Tuesday, we saw stocks up after some encouraging noises from the Fed...The numbers improved yesterday as well.
However, we saw low numbers for all of last year, and we saw the price of crude oil rise 28-cents a barrel to $63.42 on Nymex, which kept enthusiasm in check.
We`ve also heard of some uncertainty about this month`s transfer of power between Fed Chair Alan Greenspan and Ben Bernanke.
The Dow added +32.74 (+0.30%) to close at 10,880.15. The NASDAQ added +19.72 (+0.88%) to close at 2,263.46 -- the S&P 500 added +4.66 (+0.37) to finish at 1,273.46.
Local stocks split the session. JB Hunt (JBHT) lost -0.31% to close at $22.66. Tyson Foods (TSN) added +0.60% to finish at $16.81. Acxiom (ACXM) lost -0.89% to finish at $23.38 and Wal-Mart (WMT) added +0.19% to finish at $46.32.
Today, we`ll see initial jobless claims along with the December ISM Services index and crude oil inventories.
Overseas in Asia, the Nikkei rose +0.6 percent to reach 16,451.44 at the mid-day break in Tokyo. Back in the U.S., in extended hours trading, the NASDAQ 100 Afterhours Indicator rose +1.45 (+0.09%) to close the night at 1,697.28.
