Trash Trouble in Rogers Continues

By:
Updated: April 17, 2007
The trash problem is multi-faceted... the city took on a new a new waste management company and a new system of trash pick-up at the same time. KNWA`s Alexa Hamblin has more on residents` concerns. Most of the folks we spoke to today were extremely frustrated about the trash trouble, and the phones at city hall were ringing off the hooks with questions and complaints. As 2006 rolled in, so did new trash trucks, and for many folks, new trash bins. The City of Rogers now has a contract with a new waste management company, Inland Service Corporation, and they also have a new method of picking up trash... with green poly-carts. One problem is, the new company doesn`t know all the routes yet, so they are running behind on the new pick-up days. Also, many folks still haven`t received their bins, so they`re concerned their trash will not be picked up at all. Teri McClain is getting frustrated, "We still don`t have our trash cans and they moved our trash day to today, and I still haven`t seen our trash truck, so..." Mayor Steve Womack is trying to console residents, "What we`re saying right now, is that our highest priority is to pick up your trash. Whether you have the new green poly-carts or you don`t, just put it out like you always have, we`re going to get your trash." Another problem Mayor Womack and Inland have come across is that more than 100 bins have been stolen. Employees of City Hall are fielding calls from concerned residents until 8:00 each night. Mayor Womack says he thinks these kinks in the system should be smoothed out in the next week or two, so try to be patient. The point of the new trash bins in rogers is to keep the city looking good on trash day and keep animals out of the garbage. Alexa Hamblin... KNWA... Northwest Arkansas News.
