We saw positive economic figures Thursday -- but we also saw wide fluctuations during the trading session.
Regardless, investors still felt good enough about the markets to help the Street post gains. Analysts still consider stocks a more economic purchase than bonds right now.
The Dow added +2.00 (+0.02%) to close at 10,882.15. The NASDAQ added +13.41 (+0.59%) to close at 2,276.87. The S&P 500 finished flat to close at 1,273.48.
Local stocks posted a mostly negative session. JB Hunt (JBHT) lost -0.26% to close at $22.60. Tyson Foods (TSN) lost -0.30% to close at $16.76. Acxiom (ACXM) added +0.26% to finish at $23.34 and Wal-Mart (WMT) lost -1.36% to close trading at $45.69 a share.
Today, we`ll see payroll numbers from December. Also out today, the December unemployment rate which analysts expect to hold steady.
We`ll have no major earnings numbers to talk about today.
Overseas in Asia, the Nikkei added +0.3 percent at the mid-day break in Tokyo to reach 16,467.69.
Back in the U.S., in extended hours trading, the NASDAQ 100 Afterhours Indicator rose +0.98 (+0.06%) to close the night at 1,706.27.
