MORNING BUSINESS MINUTE, Weds., Jan. 11, 2006

Updated: April 17, 2007
We saw a flat day of trade on the big board -- weak earnings from Alcoa spooked investors, and put into jeopardy the New Year`s rally. We`ve started the fourth quarter earnings season, and Alcoa became the first of the Dow 30 to report. On the plus side, we saw Apple Computer introduce new products, and hit a 52 week high of $80.86 a share. The Dow lost -0.32 (-0.00%) to close at 11,011.58. The NASDAQ added +1.63 (+0.07%) to finish at 2,320.32 and the S&P 500 lost -0.46 (-0.04%) to finish at 1,289.69. Local stocks posted mostly negative numbers. JB Hunt (JBHT) lost -0.09% to close at $22.69. Tyson Foods (TSN) lost -0.48% to finish at $16.75. Acxiom (ACXM) lost -1.90% to close at $23.71 and Wal-Mart (WMT) added +0.33% to finish at $45.86. Today, we have one economic number -- crude oil inventories, and no major earnings. Overseas in asia, the Nikkei lost -0.1% to reach 16,111.63 at the mid-day break in Tokyo -- the broader Topix lost -0.7%. Back in the U.S., in extended hours trading, the NASDAQ 100 Afterhours Indicator rose +0.15 (+0.01%) to close the night at 1,744.17.
