New York`s Fed Reserve president said the government sees core inflation at "quite moderate" levels.
That news put all of the three major indexes at new high levels. Investors took that as another sign we might see an end to interest rate hikes very soon.
The Dow added +31.86 (+0.29%) to close at 11,043.44. The NASDAQ added +11.04 (+0.48%) to finish at 2,331.36 and the S&P 500 added +4.49 (+0.35%) to end at 1,294.18.
Local stocks again posted mostly positive results. JB Hunt (JBHT) rose +1.15% to close at $22.95. Tyson Foods (TSN) rose +0.30% to finish at $16.80. Acxiom (ACXM) added +0.08% to close at $23.73 and Wal-Mart (WMT) added +1.55% to finish the session at $46.57.
Today, we`ll see import and export prices for December along with initial jobless claims. Also out today -- the November trade balance and the December treasury budget.
We`ll see no component earnings reports today.
Last night in Asia, the Nikkei gained +0.4% to reach 16,249.63 at the mid-day break in Tokyo -- reaching the highest point there in nearly ten years.
Back in the U.S, in extended hours trading, the NASDAQ 100 Afterhours Indicator fell -2.37 (-0.13%) to close the night at 1,755.87.
