Bad news for investors, and bad news for The Coca-Cola Company and JPMorgan Chase after downgrades for both on news both companies had concerns about a foreseen economic slowdown and a lower rate of consumer spending.
Oil prices rose closing the session at $63.94 a barrel on Nymex.
The Dow lost -81.08 (-0.73%) at 10,962.36. The NASDAQ lost -14.67 (-0.63%) to finish at 2,316.69 and the S&P 500 lost -8.12 (-0.63%) to close at 1,286.06.
Local stocks split the session. JB Hunt (JBHT) added +1.05% to close at $23.19. Tyson Foods (TSN) added +0.54% to finish at $16.89. Acxiom (ACXM) lost -1.64% to finish at $23.34 and Wal-Mart lost -1.78% to close at $45.74.
We have a lot of economic figures out today. We`ll see November Business Inventories, along with the Producer Price Index for December and Retail sales for the same month. Also, we`ll see the January University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index.
Overseas in Asia last night, the Nikkei lost -0.1% to reach 16,436.62 at the mid-day break in Tokyo. Back in the U.S., in extended hours trading, the NASDAQ 100 Afterhours Indicator rose 0.69 (+0.04%) to close the night at 1,748.04.
