The new school building should help ease the Rogers school district`s growing pains. Construction should be complete by July of 2006. The halls will hold up to one-thousand students once the junior high opens.
Covering one-hundred sixty-six thousand square feet, the facility will serve as a temporary sophomore campus for the first two years while the old high school is remodeled.
In fall of two-thousand eight the campus will officially open as the district`s third junior high. The school board estimates the junior high will create around one-hundred new jobs. The rogers school district adds about five-hundred new students each year, so a new building to house an expanding student population is essential.
"Our junior highs will be over capacity by the time we get ready to put junior high students in this building so it will make a big difference in how much space the children have in their schools, how many lunch hours we have to run," says board member Cathy Allen.
Once completed, the school will house a media center with computer labs on each side as well as a large commons area.
