Trailer Park Trouble

By:
Updated: April 17, 2007
The Planning Board voted Wednesday night against plans for the park. Benton County Planning Director Michelle Crain says Betty Jo Mize`s trailer park violates several county regulations. Crain says Mize moved her mobile homes onto White Oak Lane without any kind of approval from the planning board. Although only one couple lives on the property in addition to Mize`s son, a septic system for all the trailers in the park has not been installed yet. Crain says neighbors complain of illegal dumping and the state of the park raises environmental concerns. Mize admits things don`t look great. She says she hasn`t had time to fix everything up but once she does the park will look nice. But she says she`s confused about what the planning board wants her to do. "I`ve done everything they`ve asked me to do and yet they still won`t let me have a park and I can`t do anything till they tell me I can, so what do they want me to do?," Mize says. Park resident Sherry Ables and although she declined to go on camera, she says she has been satisfied with the living conditions. Mize moved the mobile home park from Rogers in August of last year. She has a meeting with the Benton County Planning Director next week.
