Concerns over Intel and Yahoo evaporated Thursday when AMD posted strong first quarter results -- results strong enough to outshine sinking numbers from Apple Computer.
Oil service companies also got upgraded as oil prices continued to rise.
The results?
The Dow added +25.85 (+0.24%) to close at 10,880.71. The NASDAQ added +22.17 (+0.97%) to finish at 2,301.81. The S&P 500 added +7.11 (+0.56%) to close at 1,285.04.
Local stocks posted mostly positive figures. JB Hunt (JBHT) added +1.82% to close at $22.88. Tyson Foods (TSN) lost -0.06% to close at $16.49. Acxiom (ACXM) added +2.44% to close at $23.52 and Wal-Mart (WMT) added +2.05% to finish at $45.80.
In terms of economic figures today, we`ll see one -- the January Preliminary University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index, which analysts believe will post higher numbers.
Earnings today include numbers from Citigroup, GE and Alltel.
Overseas in Asia, the Nikkei rose +0.6% percent at the mid-day break in Tokyo, reaching 15,791.85.
Back in the U.S., in extended hours trading, the NASDAQ 100 Afterhours Indicator fell -4.03 (-0.23%) to close the night at 1,725.89.
