Updated: April 17, 2007
Those big declines on Wall Street Friday brought the bargain buyers out Monday. Also, news that Ford Motor Company would cut nearly 30,000 jobs and close more than a dozen U.S. Plants helped bolster trade. The Dow added +21.38 (+0.20%) to close at 10,688.77. The NASDAQ added +0.77 (+0.03%) to finish at 2,248.47 and the S&P 500 added +2.33 (+0.18%) to finish at 1,263.82. Stocks of local interest posted positive figures on the session. JB Hunt (JBHT) added +1.18% to close at $22.32. Tyson Foods (TSN) added +1.42% to finish at $16.48. Acxiom (ACXM) added +2.29% to close at $23.63 and Wal-Mart (WMT) added +0.56% to finish at $45.25. Today, we have no economic figures to look at. We do have quite a few earnings reports to consider. We`ll see numbers from 3M, Dupont, Johnson and Johnson, McDonalds, Northrop Grumman and Sun Microsystems among dozens of others. Overseas in Asia last night, the Nikkei rose %1.5 at the mid-day break in Tokyo. Back in the U.S., in extended hours trading, the NASDAQ 100 Afterhours Indicator fell -1.27 (-0.08%) to close the night at 1,675.03.
