GM posted losses of more than $4.8 billion dollars during the quarter -- far beyond the expectations of analysts.
However, strong earnings for AT&T, Caterpiller and other companies kept investors looking up.
The Dow added +99.73 (+0.93%) to close at 10,809.47. The NASDAQ added +22.35 (+0.99%) to finish at 2,283.00. The S&P 500 added +9.15 (+0.72%) to finish at 1,273.83.
Local stocks posted another positive session of trading. Tyson Foods (TSN) added +0.13% to close at $15.51. JB Hunt (JBHT) added +1.93% to finish at $22.67. Acxiom (ACXM) added +4.17% to close at $24.50 and Wal-Mart (WMT) added +0.76% to close at $46.32.
Today, we`ll see the Gross Domestic Product for the 4th quarter -- we`ll also see December New Home sales.
Earnings today include reports from Chevron, Procter and Gamble and T. Rowe Price.
Overseas in Asia, the Nikkei rose +1.9% at the mid-day break in Tokyo to reach 16,198.53.
Back in the U.S., in extended hours trading, the NASDAQ 100 Afterhours Indicator rose +10.7 (+0.63%) to close the night at 1,701.19.
