They are not cheap items -- laptop computers, printers and monitors, even a plasma tv -- just a handful of items these couples managed to get away from retailers using fake checks. Sgt. Shannon Gabbard of the Fayetteville Police says, "They`re not going to the bank and cashing these to get money. There`s more of a risk there. They`re going to an individual business and trying to purchase some goods and services and taking that overage amount and keeping the cash for themselves and the property." Blank business checks, personal checks, even the paper payroll checks are printed on were recovered by police. In addition, almost a dozen drivers licenses, all with different names but the same faces. Police say it`s likely they`ve run this scam in other parts of the country. Officer Gabbard says, "Given the level of involvement they have with these types of crime, this is probably not the first time this has been tried."
