Snow Sprinkles Northwest Arkansas

By:
Updated: April 17, 2007
Snow sprinkled the Northwest Arkansas area Friday morning, reminding us that it is still winter, despite some unusually warm temperatures last month. KNWA`s Alexa Hamblin has more on how some people prepared for the wintery mix that made just a brief appearance today. Just as quickly as it appeared the snow disappeared this morning, but it was around long enough for folks to work hard to avoid any inconveniences it may pose. Looking out your window this morning, you may have thought we were really in for some wintery weather. Kids were already making plans for snowball fights, and students in West Fork, Elkins, Greenland and Prairie Grove were sent home from school as a precaution, after just a few hours in class. Meanwhile, road crews in Fayetteville spewed salt and grit, ensuring drivers wouldn`t slide down any slippery slopes. Josh Myers with Fayetteville`s road crew says, "We`re making sure the city streets are safe and no slick spots, we`re putting out salt on all the hills so no people will slide." Fayetteville`s Department of Transportation likes to stay one step ahead of the weather, and employees say with the hills in this city it`s always better to play it safe than sorry. Meteorologist Rick Katzfey says there will be some snow flurries in the area Saturday as well. I`m Alexa Hamblin... for KNWA... Northwest Arkansas news.
