breaking news
The winter weather is definitely here, as folks woke up to a winter wonderland this morning with inches of snow outside their window. KNWAs Meghan Dill reports.
The weather seems to have steadily remained cold and icy and with the combination of these elements the Washington County roads are far from ideal to drive on.
The extremely low temperatures are causing the ice to remain on the roadways and many cars are sliding all over. We`ve seen countless cars on the sides of the streets and some in ditches.
With so many steep hills in Washington County, some cars are having trouble maintaining their grip and are sliding backwards.
These dangerous situations led the Springdale police department Sargeant Billy Turnbough to ask folks to just stay at home, "The roads are very slick. We are asking people to not be out traveling unless they absolutely have to."
Springdale and Fayetteville have trucks out pouring chat on major intersections and hills. We`ve also seen plow trucks throughout the day trying to clear out the roadways. If you do have to get out today, drive with extreme caution as the visibility is not great. Also give extra attention to bridges and overpasses, as they tend to be extremely icy.
