Slippery Roads in Northwest Arkansas

By:
Updated: April 17, 2007
Across both Washington and Benton County three to five inches of snow fell over the weekend. Some folks in our community were hard at work in case you needed to hit the roads. The Fayetteville Transportation Department has crews roaming the roads all weekend trying to make streets driveable, but Mother Nature hasn`t made it easy. Operations supervisor Jason Teague said, "We got a jump on it and we`re making some progress but it started feezing again and had to start over again." With the temperatures not rising above freezing in both Washington and Benton County, the snow is barely melting and the roads remain extremely slick sending some cars into ditches. Truck crews are running around the clock, but not all the streets in Northwest Arkansas are easy to clear. "We`ve got another truck out there with guys shoveling by hand so were trying to get everything we can." Benton County received some more snow this afternoon, prompting the Benton County Sheriff`s office to ask folks to stay inside Sunday night.
