Street Crews Keep Busy

By:
Updated: April 17, 2007
It`s the light at the end of the tunnel for city street crews. Monday warmer weather helped break the icy hold the weekend snows literally had on the Fayetteville streets. Jack Luper is a sandtruck driver for the City of Fayetteville, "The cold temperatures in the 20`s made it really hard to clean the streets. The snow was actually frozen to the pavement, the blades couldn`t even cut it. But today things warmed up and we`ve been going to town getting this stuff cleaned up." Crews made their way up and down the major streets. -- the key to speeding the thaw -- making sure all the slush was swept away and off the streets -- otherwise the melt would just refreeze and perpetuate the problems. Luper says, "We ran in to a bunch of people who had not been out all weekend. We had to help then get out of their driveways." City workers say they`ll be glad when the snow is gone -- for them -- it`s been a long weekend, President`s Day or not
