KNWA spoke with some of Leadford`s family members Wednesday. Adam Leadford`s grandmother and aunt say the past several days have been an emotional roller coaster.
Leadford spent time at both his grandmother and aunt`s house growing up-- and both say he was a good kid overall.
Initially family members say they were puzzled as to why he would take-off from the boot camp he was attending with so little time left to serve.
Leadford`s grandmother, Helen Leadford, says she is close to Adam and was very worried about him. She says he didn`t contact family until late Tuesday afternoon, but when reports came out stating he had been shot and killed, his family knew he was still alive.
"He just wanted us to know that he was feeling alright, that everything was ok and not to worry about him," she said. "It was pretty upsetting all the way through. Even the first young man, he was killed because they thought he was Adam, that`s not right either"
Mrs. Leadford says he told family members that he ran because he was under the impression he still had to serve a five year sentence.
She says she doesn`t know who he was staying with in Northwest Arkansas, but knows he has friends in the area.
Authorities involved with last night`s chase confirm that it was a Springdale officer who shot Leadford.
Leadford was taken to Northwest Medical Center in Springdale. According to a source-- Leadford sprayed officers with pepper spray and was then shot in the neck and jaw area.
Authorities say he was alert and oriented when he was brought in last night and remains in stable condition.
Springdale police say they tried to interview leadford at the hospital today, but he`s claiming he has amnesia and can`t remember what happened.
He faces felony charges of fleeing and second degree battery on a police officer-- it`s likely he will face even more charges with the Benton County Sheriff`s Office and Rogers Police Department.
