breaking news
At around 2:45 Thursday LaKendra Dawson was shot in the leg at an apartment in the Herford Manor complex in Siloam Springs.
The alleged shooter, Charles West, ran to the neighboring Spring Valley apartment complex. Authorities say he threw the weapon in a pond as he ran.
Law enforcement found West in an empty apartment.
"They used a key to gain entry, told him to get on the ground and apprehended him without incident" said Brenda Balk with the Siloam Springs Police Department.
Spring Valley Apartments were put on lock-down until West was taken into custody and many residents were evacuated from their homes.
The relationship between Dawson, and West is still unclear, but Siloam Springs police say neighbors heard the two arguing all last night and into today.
Dawson was taken to Washington Regional Medical Center and was said to be in good condition.
